Claireeeeee

Fuuuuucccckkk. I had really messed up dreams last night. I dreamt that a lot of friends (Raul, Jim, Cat, Mel, Jodi, Shane, Mike, Lynn) and I were in a big old victorian house with three floors. We kept running up to the third floor (the route up to the 3rd floor was different and more difficult each time we went up) and jumping out. We were thrill seekers or something like that. Even though we got injured, we kept doing it. It was as if we were totally addicted to this bizarre sport. Anyway, I woke up some time later because a female voice sounded loud and clear in my right ear saying, "Claireeeeee". At first I was immobile, unable to move in the darkness of our room. I kept thinking to myself, "there's a dissembodied voice over there on top of my bureau", but then I was able to get my wits together and wake Raul up. He later told me I freaked him the fuck out. Anyway, it was a very surreal experience. Who the fuck is Claaaiiireeee??

Green Card

Raul and I just came back from the INS. We had our INTERVIEW (See the movie, Green Card if you don't know what this refers to). It went really well. Raul was nervous, but I was confident it would be smooth sailing and it was. The woman who conducted the interview had some sort of speech impediment and an accent. The combination of the two hurdles made it extremely difficult to understand what she was saying. But we passed with flying colors. Amazing. We’ve been looking forward to this event for so long and now it’s come and gone with barely a blink of the eye. No fireworks. No upsets. Just a woman behind a desk making check marks on a form and saying, “Whern you gert the approvald letterd in the mail, you can corme back hered and have your passportd stampered.”

60% Carrie

I just took the "Sex in the City" quiz, and scored:
60% Carrie
20% Miranda
10% Samantha
10% Charlotte

I'm surprised. I thought I would have scored a lot higher in the Miranda category. Hmmm, maybe I'm really not as cynical as I think I am.

Another Day

I'm pleased with myself. I had a productive day despite being unemployed. Got in touch with my former employer and will be doing some freelance work for her until I get myself a new job. Yesterday I brought some cover letters and resume copies to places. We'll see...

And I actually got some writing done today. Amazing.

Just went for a walk and ran into "Crazy BMX Guy" - this weird dude that my sister and I used to see when we lived together on N. Jones. He rides a three-speed bike and wears a BMX crash helmet, kneepads, elbow pads, and carries a hockey stick. Very creepy. I think he has supernatural powers, too. One time we saw him while Lynn and I were sitting in her car. She said something about him and he turned around and stared right in our direction like he had heard her except there was no way he could have heard her because the windows were rolled up and we were about thirty feet away from him. We used to see him in Walgreens, which was right near our apartment. He always had full crash gear on while shopping, but one day Lynn saw him take off his helmet in the store. She said his face looked like a dried up leather handbag and he had exceedingly white teeth that expanded into a permanent and eerie smile across his very tan face. Anyway, I just saw him riding up the street and it made me all reminiscent.

Oh yeah, and I found this.

Kristen Hersh: Da Bomb

Wow. I went with my friend Bill to see Kristen Hersh play last night. She blew my mind, as always, except this time I was standing three feet away from her as she banged away on her guitar. I could even see a peice of glitter bouncing light off of her lip. It was kind of surreal. I felt like I was really invading her personal space and then I started wondering how musicians and performers deal with that. I don't think I could. I'm so closterphobic, I'd probably puke on someone.

Before the show, Bill asked her to play "Cuckoo" and she did! We were really star-struck - like two kids waiting in line to see Santa Claus or something. We got to shake her hand and talk with her a little bit. She's very pregnant at the moment and she was there with her two sons and her husband who happens to look exactly like someone I know. Anyway, it was soooo kewl...

And Now For Something Completely Different

My sister's boyfriend, Ernie, came across this video. Watch it and weep:

Craig Nicholls Cracks Us Up

Raul pointed out this quote from an interview with Vines' lead singer, Craig Nicholls last night. We both laughed until we cried, read it again, then laughed our asses off once more:

Rolling Stone: What would you want on your tombstone?

Craig Nicholls: . . . There should be a statue of [Depeche Mode's] Dave Gahan without his shirt on, inscribed SLEEP IN PEACE, MY DARK ANGEL.

Let's Try This Again

I'm going to go drop off my film (vacation photos). There's one roll that was exposed, but on the outside it looks just like all the others. I hope they don't charge me for it.

I'm dying to see the photos of the abandoned mental asylum my friend Ronda took me and my friend Cat to. There were about twenty-five buildings in all that were just sitting there empty. It was amazingly creepy. We befriended one of the guards who let us into some of the buildings and gave us a tour. My favorite place was the building reserved for the "criminally insane". Inside, there were cots turned up on their sides, broken mirrors, and bars on all the windows. Very cool. We tried to get into the morgue but because the entrance ran on electricity and all the electricity was cut, we couldn't enter. Oh well, maybe next time...

Another interesting place I visited while away was the Mutter's Museum. It's an entire museum devoted to "medical oddities". While there, I saw Chang and Eng's shared liver, the world's largest colon, and loads of other tasty tid bits like deformed fetuses, brains belonging to serial killers, and giant cysts. Yum!

Good to be on the Road Back Home Again

I just posted about how I'm glad to be back home after my three week vacation to the East Coast and about all the cool places I went, but the computer ate all my words and crashed on me.

Fuck it. In a nutshell, I had fun seeing family and friends, but I'm happy to be back in the desert...
